Today several large flocks of
cranes (
Grus Grus) have been crossing the skies over Zaragoza and its surroundings. It's a regular event every February: for a few days you'll hear loud screams coming from high above only to discover, when you look up, a numerous group of large, long-winged migrant birds trying to find their way to the North.
They come from
Gallocanta, and will probably stop at
Sariñena tonight before attempting the crossing of the Pyrenees tomorrow morning. From there, they still have a long way to fly until they reach their summer nesting quarters in central and northern Europe.
The fascinating V-shaped formations are a living prelude of the winter's end; good journey, cranes, see you again next autumn!
