We all know about the recent events in Japan. If you wish to have first-hand information and updates from Japan, this site, in English, comes useful. And for radio boradcasts, also in English, they have this.
Here we are not used (anybody is, anywhere?) to devastating natural phenomena, so sometimes figures don't mean much. I do not understand very well the meaning of the term "logarithm", but I have read today that Richter Scale is a logarithm-based one, which implies that every increase in a full degree in the scale accounts for a magnitude 10 to 30 times higher than the previous one.
